Biography

Living in Tasmania, provides plenty of opportunity for exploring with a camera in hand. It is my play time! I have lived in all sorts of places in Australia, from east to west and back again. North and south too. Photography for me is a place to maintain my sanity in a chaotic family/work life. I find I keep growing and being challenged by ideas and by the work of others.

Lovely picture. I like the DoF and the bokeh. The greens of the background complement the red of the fungus.

Going offline for a few weeks as I do a sojourn to somewhere very different. Reckon I'll have some stories and images to share when I'm back online.

Could make for an interesting long term project. Maybe you could set one camera up on a fixed height tripod at child level, and just have it 'follow' you around all day.

Something to do in summer. My feet are ice blocks enough without adding some icy water. Mind you the kids would be in there without a second thought!

When light, shadow, pose, place, all comes together. I'm invited to enjoy "meeting" a person I have never in my life met. That for me is a mark of a great portrait.

probably too much Aerosmith ringing in my ears. Mixed with Morrissey. Can be deathly. All the good shots come with dour Morrissey ringing in my ears. I dunno what's up with that.

I'm working on the theory that spunk has a different meaning in your part of the world. Either that or you were born in the early 1900's.
      • Denise Savage
Australians use it to describe something or someone as good looking. It’s also used to describe character - they’ve got some shine and cheek together, without being over the top and arrogant.

Okay, but you know what spunk means in the UK don't you? The last time I heard it used the way you have was in the film, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

I always wondered what seagulls looked like when they are doing nothing. Reminded me of being in kindergarten school where we all took naps together in one big clump :-)

The people were moving slowly. I had my tripod with me so could just set up and wait. Took a few goes, and exposed for a couple of secs or so.

Thank you Butch. I saw it as a possibility heading up the mountain and coming down, saw the mist was still around. Wasn't going to miss the opportunity. And caught up with another photographer who also stopped for an image of something else nearby. We were both thawing out from the icy top.

Certainly does Butch. One of great things about Australia, is that one part will have snow, and another will be melting in heat. We will have somewhere in flood, somewhere else battling bushfires, and others walking on dry cracked earth . . . All in one day.

I can't get my head around the idea that it snows in your part of the world. I was thinking of dropping down to your region before heading to south America, but I am fast going of the idea. Snow!?
          • Denise Savage
In only a few spaces - they are the highland alpine areas mostly. Although there has been snow in some unusual places too. Doesn't last long - gone before the end of the day there. The Snowy Mountains - in the southern states of Australia, some parts of Tasmania (including our backyard occasionally!) and a mountain in Western Australia are common snow receiving parts. The rest of the country just cooks all year round . . . . .

Nice eye Denise. Beautiful shot. As I was scrolling down, the top of the image scrolled up off the screen, and I liked it a little better with the top cropped. Have you looked at it that way? Just a thought, something I noticed.
