Biography

I live in central Florida and enjoy traveling and exploring with my Canon 7D. I also enjoy working with Photoshop to make adjustments from small enhancements to experimenting with multiple effects sometimes resulting in images that are very different than the original raw image.

Goblins on my mind... again :-) That's nice, Mark, I like the simplicity of color tones, only blue's and brown's.

There's people there!? OH yes. There are too. I would have missed them completely if Joe hadn't pointed it out. I was too busy watching ET! Hahaha.

That's great! I thought those people added to the scale, but now see they are on the hill in the background. There's clearly a grumpy face looking at ET getting all the attention...see him? Just to the right of the two people :-)

Funny thing with these kind of pics... You'll hardly ever find them when you're looking for them. They always seem to pop up unexpectedly, and when they do you'll have to be in the right creative state of mind. You obviously were. It brought back memories and a smile to my face when I saw it in the popular. Thanks
        • Philip_Tranter_Photography
Thanks Ingrid. I don't know about a creative state of mind, more like "weird" as my friend EddieM said when I showed him the shot I'd taken. Definitely need to put on a different head for photos in this sort of place though.

Well, Joe, the documentary part of photography reveals things like this - unexpected associations - and it is quite different from the lovely colored scenes we like to shoot usually :-)

Reading all the thoughtful comments I must agree Joe. I think this image is classic. Perfect capture of a fantastic opportunity.

it's a very nice photo journalistic image. Some would call it a decisive moment.

I know where you are coming from Joe, I feel the same way. I never take peoples faces without asking permission, the only exception is if they are performers and they expect to be photographed. If I put people in my photos I do not show their faces if they are dominant in the image ( Like your images "Mom" and "Getting busy") The sign does give the impression of the woman being a specimen.

Thank you, ant_hony! I am as EddieM described out of my comfort zone when it comes to people and street photography, but I do like being in new places even if it's a new place such as out of my normal comfort zone. I also enjoy my nightmares and being completely lost. I took this in Asia and for some reason may be just in my mind it seemed okay without asking.

I like this a lot. I guess the reason why you may not be so sure of it is because you did it without asking.

Thank you very much, socialtruant! There have been times where I felt the need to ask, but this was not one of them. I had walked by this woman twice before with my camera in case and she looked like this. Then when I pointed the camera at her all she did was slightly turn her eyes to me without any other noticeable changes. Reminded me of how a gecko doesn't move a stitch except only its eyes when looking at a fly.

This is a powerful image. Regardless of facial expressions, the fact that a woman is sitting there under the words human woman, is evocative. Well done.

Some images are like that. They have something about them that for the person they contain or the moment caught, they are not for immediate sharing or for sharing without some sensitivity and dignity.
        • Ontologys Dreamscape
it made me laugh... I know this uncomfortable feeling you get sometimes doing street photography...but people make an image shine...keep at it don't let yourself down and wonderful things will happen...btw. I think it's her normal facial expression...its called "bulldog" face so body language experts say...
          • Joe Lightheart
Thank you very much, Ontologys Dreamscape! I am going to do more street photography. It's exciting. You are absolutely right about her expression as she looked just like this before I had a camera in my hand and was just walking by. I wanted to snap a shot of her sitting here so I went around the corner, got my camera out and came back around the corner and she was still in the same position with the same expression!

:) sometimes people will like it if you take photos of them...they dress up for a reason...maybe you should ask them from time to time if you are allowed to make a street portrait...people react surprised and most of the time are really nice...just try and ask...but the great once are shoots of specimen in their undisturbed natural habitat xD

It happens when someone understands you are shooting it. If you want permission, they start asking questions and asking a lot of questions. For me these reactions are an interesting position for taking photos.I like her reaction.

          Joe, I love this.

You obviously feel that this is not your style, but please persevere.

She didn't like the camera being pointed at her but that really makes the image

Scowling at you is perfect. If she was giving you a big smile it wouldn't work.

This is far from being a poor image don't be putting yourself down and keep stepping out of your comfort zone.

I am not sure if the composition is appropriated, I feel that the cut is not helping the picture. I will like the opinion of professional wild photographer about it. Now the light and depth of field are great for my humble opinion.
            • Arnau Bolet Photography
Thanks for commenting, Jaime. In my defense I will say that the rest of the lizard was hidden behind leaves and there wasn't much more to show, what limited the composition. I also wanted to focus all the strength on the tail shape and position. I understand what you say but, believe me when I say that there was not much I could have done to improve the composition. Cheers!

Hawaii's hurricane season normally goes until the end of November. We've been warned it will be a longer season this year, and have already had some close ones. Had $3000.00 of flood damage on one of my rental properties, but I can use the deductions so not all lost :-)

Our hurricane season runs until the end of November too. The waters have been hotter this year than before we have just been lucky not to have something develop and take advantage of it. Sorry to hear about the flooding. We saw on the news all the rains that you got. Hope you safe the rest of the year Joe.

Beautiful. Unusual, probably unique church interior. You captured this so well. The balance of the light is great. Weren't the windows were blown out compared to the interior light? Some HDR?

Thank you very much Mark! I specifically came here late in the day because I knew the sun light would be streaming into the church door from behind me. I did not expect the light to be all over the place with extreme highlights and shadows. Yes, this is a 5 variable exposure shot stacked and I guess this would make it an HDR. Thank you very much for looking, commenting and sharing!

Just having some fun. :-) Actually I did go hiking that day hoping to see an elk as I have at that location every time I've been there. But I struck out until I was leaving in the car and there she was. Go figure.

Another good photo of the Homestead, I hadn't noticed just how much it is crumbling from your other photo. This photo, along with your description does show how much it is teetering...

I am not sure if I get your photography. Probably because I am old shaped and new into photography, is getting complicated to understand your art. But I think the latest work of you is very attractive and different.

Jaime not to worry the reason I do this way is first because people in the forum they ask me to upload more of this artistic images which I was surprised myself another reason is because I try to make my profile to look different and interesting Jaime not to worry I will keep changing things as it goes along I like to be artistic!:-)
