Exhibiting your photos

Post by frankstyburski » Sat Apr 14, 2018 4:37 pm

This is a two-part question.
I show my photographs pretty frequently at galleries, coffee houses, libraries etc. In the Chicago area, where i live, there is only one directory that lists opportunities for photographers and other artists. It is known as CHicago Artists Resource, and accepts submissions from artists from everywhere. Some opportunities are for on-line shows. Some are for shows at traditional galleries. Here is a link to the web site.

1) Are there similar sites in your areas that you can share?

2) Some of the practices of the galleries are exploitive. Some galleries charge submission fees, hanging fees, and large commissions for handling sales. Is this the practice in your area as well? Coffee houses, restaurants etc. generally don't have these fees. Has this been your experience as well? What venues have you had the best luck at selling your pictures?

I welcome your comments.

1) Not that I know of.

2) Only done it a couple of times, my local cafe had lots of my photos up for 3 months.
This was a few years ago and the photos were infrared landscape photos from this area.
