or perhaps going with prime EF 300mm f/4L IS USM EF 400mm f/5.6L USM

Do you have anything specific to say about any cameras or lenses? Or fancy recommending a really good one you have come across? Post in here

EF 300mm f/4L IS USM -OR- EF 400mm f/5.6L USM

i am on a 650D/T4i
these 2 are close enough in price, any insights ?
some reviewer have said the zoom (150-600 sigma for example) gives up a little sharpness, or any zoom and a dedicated prime is lighter also

prime vs zoom
It depends on how do you want to make photos. If you are walking around - zoom. If you are shooting from the blind - prime.
300mm is too short for birding. Even 400mm is too short when you dont use blind. It is not impossible but very difficult.

I am using 70-300 right now and walking around the forest. These birds were photographed from some 5-7 meters and I still had to crop the image.

Have to agree, I am using a 55 - 300 and shot the below images from about 5 - 6 meters away and had to crop them to get what I wanted.

So I would be looking into at least a 500 or 600mm prime or a decent zoom.
