Hi Tom

Just curious if this still applies. Mike talks about search engine results, but Google Image Search doesn't respond to even my most obscure (unique) tags, even if I include "clickasnap" in the search.

Are photo tags/titles actually searchable outside the site?

Thanks!
Nathan

Hi Nathan, yes they are however you have to wait for google to index them, it’s not instant and can vary from a couple of hours to a couple of weeks.

Thought i'd do a quick search, you can see what images of yours google has indexed here

remember, google only indexes stuff it deems relevant and useful, it does not automatically index everything you upload

I realize I can Google myself on there, but in the video Mike shows how the titles and tags show up in Google Image searches and that's what I'm really getting at. If someone knows my name and that I'm on Clickasnap, Google is unnecessary. However, showing up in GIS is (as Mike mentions) a tremendous advantage.

It appears that the tagging system works for inside Clickasnap, but is not actually indexed by Google any more. For example, my photo of the signpost with the Orion constellation has the following tags: Montana, Dillon, Ruby, Ruby Mountains, Mountains, Snow, Stars, Orion, Sign, Signs, Signpost, Night, Astrophotography, Nature, Outdoors, Astronomy, Outer Space, Starry Sky, Space, Universe, Snowy.

If I pull out a few specific ones that return a relatively small number of results in GIS (such as: "ruby mountains" orion signpost astrophotography), according to the vid, my photo should come up in the results, but it doesn't. https://www.google.com/search?safe=acti ... 4N9BQGzB2Q

Interestingly google doesn’t index tags, the image title and description are the leading factors

However tags are used by the onsite search
