Post by m-doyle » Fri Aug 11, 2017 3:42 pm

Hi everyone was wondering what camera to upgrade to starting off with Nikon dx so would want to keep lens for new body
Was looking at d500 but then the 7200 looks good also. I am big on landscape :-)

either of those would be great cameras, although I have not used the D500, the D7200 is the camera I use at the moment, I am really happy with it, and if it broke I would straight away go and buy another D7200. I am using mine with Tamron lenses, 3 Tamron lenses I have are 10-24mm 3.5, the 28-70mm 2.8 and 150-600 G2 (equivalent to 900mm on the D7200)

All photos I've posted on clickasnap are using the above.

Good luck with your new camera when you choose it, even if you go for a canon :)

I have a Nikon D300 and a D300s and have had them for quite a few years now, I intend buying a D500 but will wait until next year as they will probably refine it and release a D500s. I bought the D300 and then the D300s was released albeit the only real difference was that the D300s has video capability. I love both cameras and will continue to use them but a D500s would be amazing.

The D7200 isn't enough of an improvement over the excellent D7100 to warrant the additional cash outlay. The D7100 has a Toshiba sensor which is simply sublime, and unless you're shooting fast-paced sports, the faster buffer of the D7200 - the only significant improvement - isn't worth it. To this day, many consider the D7100 to be one of Nikon's best DSLR cameras and certainly the best value for money.

I'd get a D7100 and put the amount saved towards a good quality lens. If you're into landscapes, I'd recommend the Nikkor 20mm (30mm equivalent on a DX sensor).

Thankyou everyone after a lot of thought I'm going to pick the d7500 still got another few months with current camera. So plenty of time for a price drop and I still might change my mind again :-)

Hi Mark
Have you looked at full frame options? Those models already mentioned are all crop censor cameras. For landscapes, portraits and indoor photography I would choose a full frame camera. The Nikon D750 looks fantastic on both specifications and reviews, and is currently on sale in the UK for 1499 GBP. The Nikon D7500 is currently on sale for 1140 GBP. So more expensive, but less than a D500, and can be bought on the grey market for much less.
It may be that you have dx lenses of course (which won't work properly on cameras with full frame censors)...
