Portland head lighthouse

Historical and Maine’s oldest lighthouse. Built at the directive of George Washington in 1787 in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. George Washington hired two masons and reminded them that the early government was poor and to build it with material found in the area using oxen to haul the rocks.

The weather forecast was for a cloudy sunrise and that's what I got. The nicest thing about the cloudy sunrise was there was hardly anyone except a couple taking pictures of themselves against this background and people walking their dogs but mostly passing by.

Thank you very much, Steve! I enjoy long exposures and they have an interesting effect of both water and clouds and with the use of the tripod it slows the joy of photography even more! Thank you for your comment, like and share!

There were selfie takers there at that hour of the morning?!

Did you find yourself doing battle with hoards of them during your travels?
    • Joe Lightheart
Yes, there was a selfie taker there early that morning and she was even ignoring taking photos of her boy friend. But then she paid him some attention and made him take photos of her! When I was in New Zealand and again in Canada I was asked to move aside because I was in the spot that a selfie taker wanted to take her selfie. Interestingly the two incidents were by Chinese girls :)

Count yourself luck to be asked. I have been shoved out of the way more than once even with a tripod in hand.

It's odd to me that it's the women that are a bit aggressive with me and not the men. I believe I mentioned to you the short, older woman in Korea?

Great DOF and perspective and ... That 10-24mm helps when you need it, doesn't it?
    • Joe Lightheart
Thank you Jim! The 10-24mm is a really nice lens and so wide it also allows for errors. I have another image but with a focal range and it looks good but the 10-24mm is much nicer. Thank you for commenting, liking and sharing!

Thank you, Keith. I kept setting up my tripod here and there but kept returning to this composition because of the rocks and luckily there was no sunrise colors so I didn't need to rush about. Thank you very much for commenting and sharing!

Stunning long exposure - I like long exposures more for clouds than for water, but it works really well on the sea here as well. The lines along the rocks make it feel even more dramatic and dynamic

Thank you, jezprime! I believe I'm a bit stuck on taking long exposures as you can I have many of them. I should add some variety, but just enjoy the process. Thank you very much for commenting, sharing and liking!

I think I disagree slightly, it's important to take photos you enjoy taking - there is no point in variety for variety's sake. If one chooses subject/style because they feel they should, rather than because they want to, I think there's a fair chance that will be apparent in the final result. So I say photograph what you want, how you want, and keep enjoying it.

You are absolutely right! I really enjoy the process of taking long exposures. It really makes me slow down and think about what I am doing. Thank you very much, jezprime!
