ROTUNDA - SAINT GEORGE 3

Rotunda is a round arched structure built around the 4th century AC -similar to Pantheon of Rome- and dedicated to Zeus. In the Byzantine era it was used as a christian church and through the Ottoman years as a mosque. Since the liberation, in 1912, and until now it is dedicated to Saint George however it is not used as a church except from special occasions.
Rotunda along with Galerius Arch and his palace ruins are the most significant monuments of what is left of the Roman era of Thessaloniki.
