Comma Butterfly - Polygonia c-album

Taken back at the beginning of July 2017.

As the year progresses and the butterflies start to look a little jaded , tattered and torn its easy to forget that at least one was designed to look jagged around the edges from the word go.

We have a number of easily recognisable butterflies here in the UK but this one doubly so and it can be overlooked as a dead leaf which I am sure nature and the butterfly itself intended.

This one which was beautifully coloured sat sipping nectar with wings closed in the summer sunshine displaying the 'comma' mark where it gets its name. The different hues and shades of brown marking its underwing looked stunning in the sunlight.
