These birds are the reason why I came to Lambert's Bay, South Africa. Bird island is one of the few places on earth where the endangered Cape Gannets feel safe enough to breed. You have to see it to believe it, but these birds find each other through fly-bys. While one of them is circling in the air to find his mate, the other one stretches its neck towards the sky. Once they have located each other, there is a kind of clumsy landing and then the greeting can begin, as shown in this picture.
