The spectacular rugged coastline and imposing ruins of Tintagel Castle, North Cornwall, SW England, UK. Shot taken from the mainland battlements looking across the narrow bridge entrance to the island castle ruins. According to legend, Tintagel is the legendary place of conception of King Arthur, famous for his Knights of the Round Table. His father, Uther Pendragon, used Merlin the wizard's sorcery to disguise himself as Gorlois (also his enemy) the husband of Igraine, whom he loved, to gain access to the castle for his tryst. The castle is in a superior defensive position which straddles high ground and precipitous cliffs on the mainland across to an island linked to the mainland by a pedestrian bridge. Another controversial higher bridge is being built. One of my favourite places!
