Tree-Climbing Dog in Cottonwood Tree at Larry Moore Park in Paso Robles

On one of my walks I was taken aback when I saw this dog up in the tree. The owner says the dog likes to climb the tree. The tree itself loses more branches every winter as the storms come.

Our Rab C was a tree climbing dog, I was always torn between telling him to get off or grabbing a click quickly ! He only occasionally climbs now

Until I saw this, I didn't know dogs could climb trees. then I read a book, The Dog Who Wouldn't Be by Farley Mowat and learned that this dog in my photo was not unique.

We saw a documentary about the dogs' family tree, how various breeds developed and there is actually a 'tree-dog' ( I want to say branch! ) line. We have always had dogs but Rab C is the first tree climber we have had ... must have descended from this line !
