Looking north from Watkins Glen, New York USA; Seneca Lake is a fresh water lake in the middle of the finger lakes region of New York State in USA. This area encompasses many glacier formed lakes that are narrow, deep, and long. Seneca lake is approximately 3 miles wide, 40 miles long and about 700 ft deep. Because of the curvature of the earth, you can not see the other end. If you come from a desert land you might confuse this with an ocean:-)
This area is also known to produce some of the finest wines in America.
