Sand dunes

A place in southern Colorado next to the Rocky Mountains. Makes me wonder was there a beach here? I think so since fossils of ocean life can be found here too. There are people in this picture but they look like bugs :)

I agree with you regarding the san. But, you can find this kind of dunes in the Sahara as well. It sure has a desert appeal to it. Sharing.

Thank you very much, Rangewoman. I would love to go to the Sahara, but this was an easy 2-3 hour drive from where I was staying where as going to the Sahara would be about 36 hours and a few thousand dollars more. Thank you very much for your comment and sharing!

Nice composition with strong diagonal lines and different colored layers. For my taste I would have enhanced a bit the contrasts (in post-processing) but that's subjective :-)

Thank you very much, Marius! I'll take another look and see what increased contrast would look like. Thanks again!

Superb! With the shifting sands and the sailing clouds and the mountains providing an anchor.

Nice shot! That is home for me! I used to go in the off season and hike behind the dunes.... It's a wonderful landscape.

Beautiful shot Joe. I tried a couple of decades ago to climb up to the top but ran out of time. Ok, mostly I ran out of energy. I learned it is really hard to walk in that soft sand especially going up. I hated to fail so I promised myself I would return one day and conquer the dunes. It's a high priority on my list as I believe the view from the top is spectacular. Beautiful image!!!

Thank you very much Mark! It takes time to climb up more than effort. Be warned to bring bug spray - I didn't expect that. You know theres a stream you need to cross and I think the bugs were mosquitos.

Another treat, Joe! Just echoing what others have said; the different textures, colours and even the bugs, all creating a masterpiece. And a couple of dynamic triangles to boot [are you reading this, Mark Chinn?] The only thing that would improve this is a beach umbrella, a rather large one.

Fossils of marine life are fairly common. I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and used to find pieces of trilobite (a plant-like animal related to the starfish) stems just laying around. I didn't even have to dig for them.

Superb photo - wonderful light and shade on the dunes and a great backdrop with the mountains. Superb lines to lead one through the composition - superb. And when the eye's taken in the ground, then there's the dynamic sky to move on to.
