The Polar Bear

Armed Forces Memorial National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire, England The Polar Bear Memorial a tribute to the 49th Infantry West Riding Division was the first memorial to be erected at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, dedicated on 7th June 1998. The Polar Bear is made from yellow hardwood, it is nine feet long and five feet high and weighs 2.5 tonnes, Inside the Bear is a capsule containing the names of members of the 49th Division who did not return home from conflict.
