Northern Cardinal in my backyard after a rain

I have been trying to capture a snap of this little guy for FOREVER and finally did - I think he just took pity on me as I'd been sitting in the rain for some time waiting for a good shot of ANY bird and for the first time EVER this little guy perched and sat still for more than a nano-second while I snapped this photo of him in front of our covered grill and on one of the lamps around our patio. MY wife and I have agreed that he is my father-in-law reincarnated and tormenting me by not letting me get good photos of him.

Beautiful photo. Great detail. Nicely done. Cardinals love sunflower seeds and if they are nesting anywhere near they will stop by every day to grab a few.

Thanks! I have noticed the female (who is much less twitchy than the male) spends some time in the feeder box digging through the seeds - maybe she is looking for the sunflower seeds in the mix... The male spends much less time at the feeder - I'm guessing what to me appears as 'more twitchy' is simply due to him being the protector and always on alert.

A lot of times one of the two will sit in a tree nearby while the other eats. But, every once in a while I will see them both there at the same time. You are right the males spook easier than the females. Cardinals keep the same mate and unless the weather turns cold they will stay around for a long time. They are fun to watch.
