M42

The Great Orion Nebula or Messier-42 is the brightest emission nebula in the sky, consisting of young stars within a cloud of gas and dust. It isn't mentioned in Ptolemy's celestial catalogue, so it is possible that the stars that have made it incandescent have been born within the last 2,000 years.
Narrowband image, five-minute subframes, Hubble pallet, captured on 18-19 January 2020.
