Brave new world

Where I live we have zero to three new covid cases a day. The beaches, parks and most stores are open. People are so excited to resume “normal” life as if nothing has happened. We all wear face coverings and distancing around other people. People took a break from nature and nature probably appreciated the break.

Lovely shot Joe, both calming yet poignant...the setting of the sun on life as we knew it. We are certainly in uncharted waters at present. Best wishes to all.

Thank you very much, Jim! The newness of this virus puts many on pause. Fear of the unknown, I suppose. You're right stay safe and prepare and don't listen to the noise coming out of trumps mouth :)

Thank you very much, Angie. One of my photos that I did hardly any editing to, and I believe the effects come from all the smoke from many forest fires at the time.

Thank you, Mark! Are you planning on traveling anywhere this summer/year? Hawaii travel is still restricted and requires 14 day quarantining. I'd like to go, but quite limited as to where.

I had plans that are now on hold. Was going to go to Glacier NP and New Mexico. Glacier is out for this year but I still hope to make it ABQ (my daughter lives there) and Louisville to visit family. So nothing very exciting. Hopefully next year I can do more travel to new places.

Thank you very much, Gary! Now that you mention it, I see that too! I am aware that on occasion I can take pretty photos, but it's rare that I can take photo that causes any feelings. Thank you for commenting and sharing, I appreciate it!

A superb photo Joe, great colours and something of a "business as usual" vibe. I hope where you live remains low-risk and it stays well-controlled

Thank you very much, Jezprime! I wish you and your family safety as well. Our current government phase is called "safer at home" so even though many places are opened and opening up everyday we're reminded that we don't have to get out just because things are open again. I believe it's a smart and cautious approach. Thank you very much for sharing!

I like the pastel quality to this shot. As Howard says below, different from your regular way of doing things. Are you trying out new edits while in captivity?
    • Joe Lightheart
Thank you, socialtruant! My regular way is to edit and process my photos, and in this one there was almost no editing - so that's quite different. Haha! While in captivity I've been doing so little with photography. I did start a rather large garden though and growing things like beets, cabbage, broccoli, tomatoes, kale, arugula and a few others. Been busy with that.

I can't comment on the UK covid rules because we have a buffoon in charge so they don't make sense, e.g. stay alert. However, I like this image, slightly different style for you Joe but very good.

Thank you very much, Howard. You are right in that it's a bit different. I normally edit and process my images noticeably, but in this one I did almost no edits. As for buffoons in the states we have a very large one that some say is "orange". He's not only a liar, but a global threat to life, Thank you for commenting and for sharing! Appreciated!

      Want to hear stupid?

Here in Spain, the bars are now open provided that they only using outside tables. BUT, just this week the PM passed a law that makes it compulsory to wear masks in any public area inside or out where 2 meters of personal space is not guaranteed.

SO, how in the plonking bollards are the people sat outside of the bars going to drink, eat and smoke with facemasks on????

I did notice on Amazon ES that you can buy a face mask with integrated straw and a flap for eating.

Thank you very much, inukshuk! It's interesting to see that medical recommendations have been quite consistent globally as to best practices for this new virus and yet many governments handle this differently. It's a tough balance of virus vs economy vs overwhelming healthcare. We can only look after ourselves. Thank you for sharing!

Brave new world it most certainly is. When we go to shops we all stand in a Covid queue before going in . . . . .so far we have had a run of a few days without any new cases in our little part of Australia. We're hoping . . . . .And we are far from everything being opened and back to normal. May we all keep staying safe.

Thank you, Denise! Our current re-opening phase is called "safer at home" meaning many business are opened with limitations, with mandatory face coverings, physical distancing, hand sanitizers. I'm glad the gyms and hair salons are not allowed yet. We're still having tourists arrive and our mandatory 14 day quarantine is weak and violated and a few people are being arrested. Life sure has slowed down and many know to stay home. Yes, stay safe!
