Hoverfly - Volucella pellucens

Taken back in June 2017 in my garden.

I photographed this hoverfly as it sat on the flowers of my Sambucus niger shrub which is the dark leafed form of the elderberry and although it has quite an open structure the lovely flowers are set off nicely against the dark leaves.
The reflection of the shrub and sky can be seen in the shiny black thorax of this individual.
Quite a large hoverfly this one is commonly known as the Great Pied Hoverfly.
To me this species does not seem to be going out of its way to try and mimic any form of bee like a lot of other hovers do.
