Nice shot! I'd bet this is a Great Blue Heron. Very nice! I can never get close to one - they are very skittish.

Yes It is a great blue heron-- He or she was very cooperative -- Just sat there as we were in a car maybe he or she was not scared. The Ridgefield National Wildlife is a drive through area only. Shot this back in mid February - so very cool temp-- My buddy was practicing as he was going to a bird workshop in South Texas a week later.

I used to do a lot of bird watching and once spent a few weeks in and around Sanibel, Ding Darling, Naples Florida one winter and saw an incredible amount of birds. From Roseate spoonbills, flamingoes and wood storks, and now wish I was into photography then. Guess I'll have to go back some day :)
