The Halifax Gibbet was used as a place of execution for over 360 years with it's final use on the 30th April 1650 in the beheading of Abraham Wilkinson and Anthony Mitchell . The platform on which is stood was lost during the 1600's and only rediscovered in the 1830's when the area was cleared for redevelopment. There were 2 skeletons found close by which are thought to have been the bodies of the blades last 2 victims. The replica gibbet was built in 1974 and the original blade can still be seen at the local Bankfield Museum.
