This Time Last Year. Late Spring and Summer are not good seasons for landscape photographers who want to get up early for a sunrise and this year (2020), I have a good excuse to stay in bed. Last year was a different, I found this image in my archive of a sunrise from May 2019. I remember the morning well as I had wanted to photograph a row of trees but I couldn’t get the composition to work to my satisfaction so left it and went to Digley Reservoir to find something else. When I arrived, it was a bit late as the sun was already up, so I didn’t have time to get into position for a sunrise over the water. Instead, after I’d parked the car, I looked in the opposite direction and came up with this. I remember the thrill when the sun first appeared over the hill and the amazement of how red everything suddenly became and I remember thinking how worthwhile it is to get out, even this early. I always do.
