After Hours

After Hours. After climbing the 199 steps and wasting time as the light faded trying to get into a closed Abbey, I climbed over the wall to get this shot.

Okay I’ve got to stop here. It’s a beautiful day and you’ve inspired me to get out the new filters to try. I love your pictures and you have an amazing eye. Your descriptions of each photo are just as great. Thanks for sharing and I’ll “like” you later! PS. Just finished Mike Browne’s beginner course. P.S.S. Your photos are anything but amateur!

People have been climbing over monastery walls for centuries.

True, the Vikings were the first to destroy a monastic building on this site, I don't think my photography did as much damage as they did?

Ah now, Howard - if you were a Good Catholic Boy, you would know what "going over the wall" means … as for Vikings attacking monasteries we have form there too ,,, that was the subject of one of my son's first ever songs : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yE52YVsJMcE

So having climbed the stairs, jumped the wall, taken the photo, did you get to kill the dragon in the basement?
    • Howard
No, the basement was closed until next Dragon killing season, £15 entry fee but discounted for Christians.

Most of the historic places like this are only open from about 9 or 9:30 am to 5 or maybe 6 pm. I always check this during my planning process :) pity most are closed for the best light of the day.

Sure, but I always travel in May so Sunrise is about 5 am and sunset at about 9 pm ...
