Sorry, guys. Would love to view and like more of your pix. But it takes minutes to load a detail site. And that's quite annoying. Hope it will be better soon ...

Have you tried using a VPN into tricking the site into thinking you're in England?

Joe Lightheart is using one now, and reports that all his problems with slow page loads and getting booted of the site are gone now.

Beautiful photo. Never ran into a group of bad mannered photographers. But have encountered two at a time that setup in front of me on sunrise/sunset shots. Never had a problem in getting them to move. Every time they were just focused on what they wanted to get a photo of and just didn’t pay attention to anything else.

It's very rare that I encounter another Photographer but when I do they have been friendly. Nice shot, well worth a fight.

Thank you, Howard :) didn't have to fight for this one. The guys have been on the oposite side :) and as I mentioned below: Maybe it's just a German problem - my compatriots often have a problem with their behavior.

Beautiful color - a wonderful atmosphere. I'd rather see something different than what everyone else is shooting. You did very nicely here. It's not a comfortable place to be - crowded by selfish people.

Oh :) and thanks a lot, Joe, for your kind words :)

That's true but I encountered this kind of behavior many times where a lot of "photographers" where trying to catch the "perfect shot". Perhaps my way of thinking is different because I don't see myself as a photographer, but only as a person who likes to photograph. For me, a photographer is someone who earns his money photographing. But in Scotland I also experienced several times that one made place voluntarily, if one had finished his photos. Maybe it's only a German problem ...

In Hawaii, I have not been to places where there are a bunch of people taking pictures. New Zealand was my first ever encounter with a lot of people crowding for the best spots. I've never seen or experienced this before and it was shocking to me. I recall my first thoughts were to shy away, and leave with no pix, but then after a bit I realized most of the people taking pictures were just like me and just trying to get a good shot. I am sure as I travel more, I may run into more selfish and perhaps a more aggressive crowds of photographers. I would do what you do and find another great spot away from the crowds and would be even happier to have an image that is not the same as what everyone else has. As for a German problem, I would count myself as fortunate, and a new life experience since I do not know what that is or what that means.

Many Germans have a problem behaving sensibly, especially abroad. They appear there as if everything belonged to them and as if everyone had to follow them. That is often annoying and as a German you are often quickly sorted into this category. This is also the reason why Germans are not very popular in many countries. But you often feel this behaviour in situations like the one with the many photographers. They are selfish and don't think that others might want to take a picture as well. For some it's simply thoughtlessness, but for some it's also the intention to keep others from taking a better photo than themselves. This can also be felt in German photo communities. For example, if you ask them where a photo was taken and how best to get there, you're lucky if the only answer you get is a hint that you'll find out for yourself. Many react really angry and aggressive. That's the reason why I don't participate in such communities anymore.

I see many Hawaiians behaving aggressively, short tempered and with no sense either, and they don't even travel! In my experience this happens more with the locals here that are only high school educated and are lower income folks. I can say if one likes to fight this would be a great place to be and all you need to do is look at someone a little bit off. I am glad to say the people I have met from Germany are not aggressive or selfish and I've had enjoyable conversations with them. You are right - we don't need to be around angry or aggressive people.

              • Joe Lightheart
I've never been to Tasmania so I can't say, but I highly recommend New Zealand. I stayed at Airbnbs and many times with only hours of prior notice and had zero problems with places to stay. The next time I go I might hire a camper style van and do more camping. There's really good places and apps for locations too. I spent most of my time on the southern island - it's a lot less populated. New Zealand is fantastic, wonderful people great places to hike, etc., etc. Can't go wrong with New Zealand! I also went right after peak season so was better, less crowds, less people and not as expensive.

Nice thanks for the info...we tried to go to the Island by ferry but you cant bring a dog cause of quarantine... it's going to be Norway first now...and I bought new equipment so New Zealand is going to be on hold for a while but I totally looking forward to it :)

Thank you, Ontologys Dreamscape! No app. I found the milky way by stopping the car and looked around while all the lights were turned off. There is almost no city light pollution and the skies were very dark since the moon rise was not for another few hours. Once my eyes got used to the darkness the milky way was seen easily.

Thank you, Cyril! I have an advantage here as this mountain I am on is called Mauna Kea. It is the home to about 13 observatories and telescopes from countries around the world. This location has been determined to be astronomically the best in the Northern Hemisphere as the air is very, very clear and the skies are very, very dark since we are in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Thank you Howard. We are in hurricane season till the end of November - the ocean temperatures are warmer, and I know we will have a direct run in sooner than later. The last one was 1992 that caused a lot of damage, se we're due. While I was in Canada there were more than 400 fires, plus they had very warm and dry conditions too.

Excellent, Joe, Milky Way is always fascinating to watch... bit difficult to shoot but you managed it very well :-) In the end another reminder of how small are we in this big world :-)

Thank you, Marius! This was my first time trying this type of shot and am surprised to have gotten something okay even at f/4 - my wides aperture on the lens I had. It helped that I was about 9,000ft/2700+m elevation where the air is very clear. Truly incredible to see so many stars and yes, does make one feel rather insignificant :-)

So every time you leave, the place has an eruption of some sort? You must be like the Ravens at the tower of London.

Never heard of the Ravens at the tower of London so had to look it up, and found it very interesting. First the country wipes them out then has to have a Ravenmaster to ensure their ongoing presence. I don't really matter and Hawaii just seems to have a lot of high spirited earthy activities.

More than ever I think the decision to switch to Fuji was the best step. Looks like Nikon didn't manage to produce a proper mirrorless camera. Too expensive and most of the guys at youtube are not really impressed. And one would need new lenses anyway, or an adaptor. So I would say: To hell with Nikon :-D.

My legs and butt were frozen. I was beginning to shake from cold. But I couldn’t resist cos it just looked so cool.

                        Lovely photo!

We don't have this issue in Norway (and a few other countries)

Freedom to Roam is really nice, but during hunting season it's sort of wise to be careful :-)

Thanks. We have a similar system in the UK where there is open access land. Such land normally has signs to indicate that it is open access and all land above 1000 feet (I think) is open access land.

Thanks and thanks for sharing. As always I'm exaggerating a little, we were on private land used for hunting and fishing and they were the game keepers. They didn't threaten us and allowed us to continue.
